Teacher Complaints - 'Uh Oh' for Schools and Teachers, Blessing for Parents and Students Children are often taught in school to look out for adults who might hurt them. But sometimes, the grown-ups in their own classrooms are the ones who could do the most harm. Abuse by educators is a volatile, sensitive subject that's been whispered about in school hallways and behind closed office doors as long as there have been schools. But a lack of public acknowledgment has helped the problem to spread and the bad teachers to circulate. TeacherComplaints.com is a public opinion site which is geared towards parents and students to compare and complain about teachers, homework, discipline and classroom behavior. This controversial website was founded in the spring of 2009. Followed by initial testing which was a success among parents and students - additional integrated features were added to the site which gives an emphasis on search, discovery and social networking began taking shape in preparation for the first year of school which will begin in the fall of 2009. The founder and CEO of TeacherComplaints..com stated that the number of teachers, who have lost their licenses because of sex offenses alone, has increased nearly 80 percent since the mid 1990’s. Several of those who lost their licenses were caught only after they had been molesting students for many years. The site's owner stated that it is unacceptable to hear of a child being abused by an educator but it happens daily and went on to say that on any given day, anyone can search Google news for (teacher arrested) only to find thousands of disturbing results in which a teacher was arrested for assault, exploritation, drugs, molestation or rape involving a student. Children are 'Sitting Ducks' for Pedophile Teachers according to Russell Goldman an ABC reporter who stated that "It is really a matter of access to children". Why not take the complaint to the school? More often than not, The school system will back the teacher over the child or label the child and parents as the 'trouble makers' - On January 8, 2009, Two Lansing, NC parents were arrested after their daughter had been a victim of bullying which led the parents to the school seeking help. The father admitted that he made a reference to the Columbine attacks and also said something similar to that could happen in schools where bullying occurs - the school took it as a threat and pressed charges against the father. The mother was also charged for tresspassing. The child was forced out of school and is currently home schooled. You can be a good parent but if the school doesn't care to listen or doesn't want parental involvement, what do you do? - You file a complaint and hold them accountable! Why is a site like this a good thing? First, There has never been a database of complaints about teachers which have been accessible by students, parents, schools, law enforcement or to the public before now. This site keeps track of all complaints filed against a particular school, a particular teacher or staff person. Second, Lets say your child is experiencing a problem with a particular teacher. Not only can you go to the school system about your childs problem(s) - but you can refer them back to this site which has mounting complaints about the same thing happening to other students. It not only gives weight to your childs story but adds validity to the complaint forcing the school system to look into the complaint rather than just, 'sweep matters under the rug'. Third, What if a School Teacher was fired from one school due to abuse and relocates to your town, would you know about it or about the teacher? At TeacherComplaints.com, Parents, Students, Law Enforcement and School Personnel can research a Teachers reputation. Can a good teacher get a false complaint? - The short answer is, yes. But that could happen whether it be at the site, in a school system or through a false police report. Just as with any complaint, Teachers and Schools should respond to the complaint in a professional manner. The site provides a rebuttal / comment section which allows teachers to respond to a complaint filed against them and allows further communication between parents, students, teachers and schools regarding the complaint.
