Where the heck does the money go
Consolidating your transactions and categorizing them automatically is cool. But how does that help you? Data is useless unless you extrapolate real, valuable information out of it. Typically, personal finance tools display information in vanilla, tabular formats accompanied by a few pie charts. Since we’re not accountants, we don’t enjoy looking at expenses line by line. Pie charts were cool back in the 90’s, but we don’t find them useful enough to show trends in spending behavior. SpendView presents expenses in the form of interactive tag clouds and dynamic charts, which are designed to help you identify trends in your spending habits . The dashboard displays a consolidated bar graph of expenses over a selected time period along with a tag cloud of the categories. From here, you can zoom into a tag, let’s say ‘food’, and visualize vital statistics like dollars spent, top culprits, historical trends, etc. You can flip over to a related category, let’s say ‘eating-out’, and view similar details. By the way, if you are an accountant and prefer the old school view, we’ve got that too.
