MyFriendSuggests.com takes a unique approach towards tackling the problems faced by other local search sites. While the site has all the common local search features such as tagging, RSS Feeds andGoogle Maps integrations it uses three unique features to help it’s users find information that is relevant to them rather than reading reviews of people whom they have nothing in common with. The three features are: The Friend Network feature allows users to see if reviews are made by friends (or friend’s of a friend). This helps user’s qualify how valuable the review is and even contact the person to discuss it further. The Personalized Suggestion formula helps find places that user’s will like. By using a technique called collaborative filtering we are able to use the places users have rated and those that their friends rated to predict how well they will like places they’ve never been. The Similarity Meter calculates how similar the tastes of every two user’s on the system. This allows users to read reviews of people with similar tastes and factor that in to their decision making.
